Tim Northrop - Admitted 1990

Tim read law at Bristol University and took his Law Society Finals at the College of Law in Guildford. He was then articled to specialist entertainment law practice Steven Fisher & Co and qualified as a solicitor in 1990.

In 1991 Tim was approached by Seifert Sedley Williams to join their entertainment law department. Later that year Tim moved with the bulk of the entertainment department to form a new firm, becoming a partner in Searles in 1993 where he remained until setting up Northrop McNaughtan Deller in 2004.

Throughout his career, Tim has advised upon all aspects of copyright and trademark law as it pertains to the entertainment industries, with particular emphasis on litigation. He has conducted High Court and County Court litigation on behalf of artists and managers as well as record and publishing companies, photographers, PR companies, film and television companies. As well as disputes over contracts, partnership, audits, infringement of copyrights patents and trademarks, breach of confidence, defamation and share valuation, his experience includes obtaining of emergency injunctions, delivery up orders, search and seizure orders.

In addition Tim has a wealth of experience in non-contentious matters, advising on contractual and business affairs across the breadth of the entertainment industries.
